Paris

The City of Light, redesigned for smart travelers.

About Paris

Paris rewards the unhurried. Beneath the wide Haussmann boulevards and the grey-zinc rooftops runs a city built for walking — and lately for swimming, too: since the summer of 2025 Parisians once again bathe in the Seine at supervised riverside pools, steps from a Notre-Dame reopened in December 2024 with its stone scrubbed luminous and cream. The great sights need no introduction — the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower catching the evening light — but the real Paris lives in its villages: the medieval lanes of Le Marais, the canal-side apéro of Canal Saint-Martin, the literary cafés of Saint-Germain. The riverbanks are pedestrian promenades now, Rue de Rivoli nearly car-free, and a shared bike is often the loveliest way across town. Come for the museums and monuments; stay for the smaller pleasures — a warm baguette carried home, a bench in the Luxembourg Gardens, the first glass of the evening as the streetlights come on. Few cities blend grandeur with everyday grace so effortlessly.

Money-Saving Tips

  • 1Museum Pass pays off in 2 days if you plan visits strategically.
  • 2Boulangeries for lunch (€5–8) over tourist restaurants (€25+).
  • 3Navigo weekly metro pass beats single tickets if staying 4+ nights.

Getting Around

  • 1Metro Line 1 (yellow) covers Louvre → Bastille → Châtelet end-to-end — a single ride is €2.15, a carnet of 10 is €17.35.
  • 2CDG airport → city: RER B train runs every 10 min to Gare du Nord, €11.80, ~35 min — skip the €60 taxi.
  • 3Vélib bike-share docks are every ~300m in central arrondissements; a 24h pass is €5 and beats walking in the rain.

Most Common Mistake

Booking a hotel labelled "Paris" that's actually in a suburb — always check the arrondissement. Anything above 20th is outside the périphérique.
