Las Vegas has quietly stopped being only a casino town. The gambling and the neon are still here — the Bellagio fountains still dance for free, Fremont Street still blazes downtown — but the city’s new symbols are the Sphere, the vast glowing orb beside the Venetian that wraps audiences inside music and light, and a Formula 1 circuit that turns the Strip into a night-time racetrack every November. This is now a genuine live-entertainment and major-league sports capital: arena residencies, the Raiders, the Stanley-Cup Golden Knights and the championship Aces, and a dining scene serious enough that the Michelin Guide is returning in 2026. Step off the Strip and the Mojave takes over — Red Rock Canyon half an hour west, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead beyond, the Grand Canyon a day trip away. Excessive, reinvented and open around the clock, Las Vegas gives you as good a time as you are willing to have. Come for the spectacle; stay for the desert on its doorstep.

The Strip is 4.2 miles long — plan hotels by section. Mid-Strip (Bellagio / Cosmopolitan / Caesars) is the sweet spot: walkable to fountains and shows, monorail to the rest.

Most Common Mistake

Booking "Las Vegas Boulevard" assuming it means the Strip — north of the Stratosphere it's industrial sprawl. Confirm the property is between Sahara Ave and Mandalay Bay.
