About Rhodes
Rhodes is where the medieval world still stands, walled and whole. The largest of the Dodecanese islands wears a UNESCO Old Town that is among the biggest inhabited medieval quarters in Europe — a four-kilometre ring of ramparts built by the Knights of St John, with the Palace of the Grand Master at the top and the Gothic inns of the Street of the Knights below, still lived in, still loud with life. Beyond the walls the island runs to long beaches: family sands at Faliraki, golden Tsambika beneath its hilltop monastery, the wind-whipped spit of Prasonisi where two seas meet and the windsurfers gather. South lies Lindos, its whitewashed village climbing to an ancient acropolis above a perfect blue bay, and inland the summer shade of the Valley of the Butterflies. Warm, sun-soaked and steeped in three thousand years of history, Rhodes gives you knights and beaches in a single, easy trip.
Sleep inside the Old Town walls one night for the medieval atmosphere, then move to Lindos or Faliraki for the beach part. Don't spread your stay across more than two bases.
