Sherry's Take

Stay in Namba / Shinsaibashi for street food + shopping, or Umeda for transit + business. Stay 3 nights minimum — most people underestimate how much there is and end up rushed.

Money-Saving Tips

  • 1Eat at standing-only kuidaore counters — full meals for ¥600–900 vs ¥1,500+ sit-down.
  • 2The Osaka Amazing Pass (¥2,800 1-day, ¥3,600 2-day) covers metro + 30+ attractions — pays for itself if you do 3 sights.
  • 3Sky Building observatory (¥1,500) is half the price of Abeno Harukas (¥3,000) with similar views.

Getting Around

  • 1Kansai (KIX) → Namba: Nankai Rapi:t ¥1,450 (40 min) or Airport Express ¥970 (50 min) — both faster than the bus.
  • 2Osaka subway day pass (¥820 weekday, ¥620 weekend) makes a big city navigable. Most lines run every 5 min.
  • 3JR Loop Line goes around the city center — useful for Osaka Castle, Tennoji, Umeda in one ¥250 ticket each leg.

Most Common Mistake

Skipping Osaka for "just Kyoto and Tokyo" — Osaka is the food capital, miss it and you miss the best meals of the trip.
