Sherry's Take
Stay in Union Square / Nob Hill for transit + walkability, or Hayes Valley / Mission for restaurants and a more local feel. Skip "Fisherman's Wharf" hotels — overpriced and far from anything else.

Money-Saving Tips
- 1CityPASS or the Go San Francisco Pass pays for itself if you do 3+ paid attractions (Alcatraz, Aquarium, etc).
- 2Ferry Building marketplace food vendors are cheaper and better than the Fisherman's Wharf chain restaurants.
- 3Cable cars are $8 a ride — buy a 3-day Visitor Passport ($35) instead.
Getting Around
- 1SFO → Union Square: BART subway $10.50, 30 min, every 15 min. Far cheaper than rideshare ($60+).
- 2MUNI buses + Metro + cable cars all use Clipper card or the MuniMobile app — $2.50 a ride, day pass $5.25.
- 3San Francisco is hilly — wear shoes you can climb in, and budget extra rideshare for late-night uphill returns.
Most Common Mistake
Packing for "California summer" in July — the city is foggy and 60°F when the rest of CA is 90°F.
