Getting Around
- 1Almaty (ALA) airport is ~15 km north — a taxi (Yandex Go) into town is quick and cheap.
- 2A single metro line plus buses cover the centre; the Kök-Töbe cable car is a sight in itself.
- 3For Shymbulak, take the Medeu bus then the gondola up.
Most Common Mistake
Treating Almaty as just a city stop — its real draw is the Tian Shan on the doorstep (Big Almaty Lake, Shymbulak). Leave a day for the mountains.
