The Hotel Rooms With the Best Views in the World in 2026

Ten rooms where the view is the reason to come, and, for each, exactly which room to ask for, because not every room in the hotel sees what the photo shows.

Jade Mountain Resort in St Lucia, an open sanctuary facing the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea

In short

Sometimes the hotel is not the most important thing in the booking.

The room is.

You can book a famous hotel with a stunning view and find that your room faces a courtyard, a roof or the building next door.

So on this list we did not pick hotels with a beautiful location alone.

We picked the room or suite category you should actually be looking for.

For a direct Eiffel Tower view the standout choice is the Duplex Terrace Eiffel View Suite at Shangri-La Paris.

For especially dramatic nature, the Galaxy Sanctuary at Jade Mountain Resort faces the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea.

For a city view, the Panorama Suite at Aman Tokyo gives you two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows above Tokyo.

For the Matterhorn, at National Zermatt you have to ask explicitly for a south-facing room towards the summit.

And for an exceptional combination of mountains and a bay in Oman, the Pool Villa Suite Beachfront at Six Senses Zighy Bay puts the sea right in front of the villa.

The most important rule in this article:

Do not just book a hotel with a view. Book the right room.

1. Jade Mountain Resort, St Lucia

Jade Mountain Resort in St Lucia, an open sanctuary facing the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea

The room to look for

Galaxy Sanctuary

Why we chose it

Very few hotel rooms in the world make the view feel as though it has actually come inside the room.

At Jade Mountain that happens because of the architecture.

The sanctuaries are built so that an entire side of the space is open to the outside.

There is no ordinary wall between you and the view.

The Galaxy Sanctuary category holds the hotel's highest and largest units, with especially open panoramic angles towards Gros Piton and Petit Piton and the Caribbean Sea.

Most of the sanctuaries also have a private infinity pool positioned exactly along the line of the view.

What you actually see

The two Pitons rise out of the green landscape almost directly in front of the room.

Below them is the Caribbean Sea.

In the morning the view is green and bright.

Towards evening the colours turn deeper.

And the great advantage is that you do not have to step onto a balcony to see it.

The view is in front of the bed, the seating area and the pool.

Especially suited to

Honeymoons

Couples

Anyone looking for dramatic nature

Anyone willing to give up a classic hotel room for a more open experience

Worth knowing

The open design is part of the experience.

Anyone who prefers a fully enclosed room, sealed off from nature, should understand in advance that this is a very different concept from an ordinary hotel.

Sherry’s Take

If I were booking Jade Mountain for the view, I would not settle for a random category. Galaxy Sanctuary is exactly the example of how, in a hotel with a view, where the room sits inside the building changes everything.

2. Shangri-La Paris, Paris

Shangri-La Paris, a suite with a private terrace and a direct view of the Eiffel Tower

The room to look for

Duplex Terrace Eiffel View Suite

Why we chose it

In Paris there are plenty of hotels advertising an Eiffel Tower View.

But there is an enormous difference between glimpsing a slice of the tower between two buildings and stepping onto a private terrace with it almost in front of you.

The Duplex Terrace Eiffel View Suite at Shangri-La Paris is a two-level suite of about 70 sqm with a furnished private terrace and a direct view of the Eiffel Tower.

And that is exactly what makes it one of the strongest choices in the world when the view is the reason for the booking.

What you actually see

The Eiffel Tower is the central element.

Not a “Paris View”.

Not a “City View”.

The Eiffel.

The terrace is an important part of the experience, because it lets you sit outside rather than only photograph through a window.

What to check before booking

It matters that you choose exactly this category:

Duplex Terrace Eiffel View Suite

Do not settle for a general Eiffel View.

The hotel itself also notes that the photographs of its room categories do not guarantee that every room will be completely identical to the picture.

Especially suited to

Honeymoons

Anniversaries

A romantic break

A first visit to Paris

Sherry’s Take

If the Eiffel is the reason you are paying more, I would take a real terrace over a few more metres inside the room. That is the difference between “there is a view” and sitting in front of it with a coffee in the morning.

3. Katikies Santorini, Oia, Santorini

Katikies in Oia, a white terrace on the cliff facing the Santorini caldera

The room to look for

The Terrace Pool Suite, or a Suite that explicitly states a Caldera View

Why we chose it

In Santorini almost every good hotel writes Sea View.

But what you actually want is a Caldera View.

Katikies sits on the cliff of Oia, and its strongest suites open onto the caldera with private terraces.

The Terrace Pool Suite includes a private terrace overlooking the caldera and a private pool.

That is a different experience from a room that simply “sees the sea”.

What you actually see

The white cliffs of Santorini.

The caldera.

The Aegean Sea.

And the way the light changes through the day.

The view here is built less around a single landmark like the Eiffel or the Matterhorn.

It works because of the whole composition.

What to check before booking

Katikies notes that rooms and suites in the same category can differ from one another.

So you need to make sure the category explicitly includes a Private Veranda with Caldera View.

If the photographs of a particular room are your reason for booking, do not assume every unit will look exactly the same.

Especially suited to

Couples

Honeymoons

A romantic break

Anyone who likes sitting on the terrace rather than only sightseeing

Sherry’s Take

In Santorini I would choose the terrace before I chose the size of the room. Most of your memories of the hotel will probably be made outside.

4. National Zermatt, Zermatt, Switzerland

National Zermatt, a room balcony in Zermatt with the Matterhorn summit behind

The room to look for

Ask for a south-facing room, towards the summit. The hotel’s name promises Matterhorn views, but not every room in the building faces the same way, and that is the only detail that matters here.

Why we chose it

Zermatt is a combustion-free town and the Matterhorn is visible from almost anywhere in it. The difference between hotels is not whether you can see the mountain, but whether you see it from the bed or the balcony with nothing in the way.

The hotel stands at Matterstrasse 39, positioned as the gateway to the Sunnegga funicular, one of the best-known viewpoints on the mountain.

What you actually see

The triangular pyramid of the Matterhorn, which changes colour completely between sunrise and sunset. In the morning it is lit from the top down; in the evening it is a silhouette.

Especially suited to

Couples

Photographers

Skiers

Summer hikers

Worth knowing

Not all rooms face the mountain. Do not rely on the hotel name: ask explicitly for a room with a summit view and get it confirmed in writing.

Sherry’s Take

In Zermatt I do not check whether there is a mountain view. I check which window exactly, because that is the whole difference.

5. The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort, the Maldives

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli, an overwater villa with a terrace and an open view of the Indian Ocean

The room to look for

Overwater Villa

Why we chose it

There are plenty of overwater villas in the Maldives.

But at St. Regis Vommuli the advantage is the way the villa opens onto the ocean.

The Overwater Villa is a villa of about 182 sqm, with a private pool, a large terrace and an open view of the Indian Ocean.

There is no skyline here, no mountain, no building.

The view is simply a horizon.

And that is exactly the point.

What you actually see

Water.

More water.

And then a horizon.

In the morning the colours are brighter and more turquoise.

In the evening everything changes with the villa's orientation and the weather.

What to check before booking

If the sunset matters to you, do not assume every Overwater Villa faces the same way.

Check the villa's position and the specific category.

There are also dedicated Sunset categories within some of the villa types.

Especially suited to

Honeymoons

Couples

Anyone looking for privacy

Anyone for whom the sea is the entire reason for the holiday

Worth knowing

In the Maldives the difference between a good villa and a perfect one can simply be which way the villa faces.

Sherry’s Take

In the Maldives I would check the orientation before the size. Another 20 sqm interests me less if the other villa gives me the light and the sunset I want.

6. Aman Tokyo, Tokyo

Aman Tokyo, floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Tokyo skyline

The room to look for

Panorama Suite

Why we chose it

Aman Tokyo gives you an almost completely opposite experience to the Maldives.

Here the view is a city.

The Panorama Suite sits in the corners of the Otemachi Tower and covers about 139 sqm.

Its most important advantage is the dual aspect.

Two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows create a wide outlook over Tokyo.

You can see Tokyo Tower and other landmarks across the city.

What you actually see

Skyscrapers.

Streets.

Lights.

Tokyo Tower.

And a skyline that changes almost completely between day and night.

The suite includes a separate bedroom, a living room, a dining area and a bathroom with a Japanese furo.

So the view is not only in one place in the room.

It stays with you through much of the stay.

Especially suited to

Couples

A luxury city break

Architecture lovers

Anyone who prefers city views to natural landscapes

Worth knowing

In Tokyo the weather and the visibility have a big effect on how far you can see.

Clear days give the most impressive experience.

Sherry’s Take

This is the kind of room where I would leave the curtains open at night too. After dark Tokyo becomes a completely different view.

7. Le Sirenuse, Positano, Italy

Le Sirenuse in Positano, a balcony facing the town's houses, the cliffs and the Mediterranean

The room to look for

Sea View Room, or a Suite with a Balcony

Why we chose it

In Positano you are not looking only for the sea.

You are looking for the whole town spilling down the hillside into the water.

And that is exactly the kind of view that makes a room at Le Sirenuse special.

From the sea-facing terraces and balconies you can see the houses of Positano, the cliffs and the Mediterranean in the same picture.

What you actually see

The pale-coloured houses of Positano.

The cliffs.

The sea.

Boats.

And in the evening the lights of the town on the slope.

It is a view that works in the morning and after sunset alike.

What to check before booking

Do not book a room on the hotel's name alone.

Choose a category that states Sea View and, where possible, a Balcony or a Terrace.

In Positano the angle of the room matters a great deal.

Especially suited to

Couples

A romantic break

The Amalfi Coast

Anyone who wants a view that connects a town and the sea

Sherry’s Take

In Positano a balcony is, to me, part of the room. If you are going to wake up to that view, I want to sit in front of it too, not just look through glass.

8. One&Only Cape Town, Cape Town

One&Only Cape Town, the view of Table Mountain above the marina

The room to look for

One Bedroom Marina Suite

Why we chose it

Cape Town is one of those cities where nature simply refuses to stay outside the city.

The One Bedroom Marina Suite at One&Only Cape Town covers about 123 sqm and includes a direct view of Table Mountain.

Large windows and sliding doors let you open the space up to the view.

What you actually see

Table Mountain.

One of the most recognisable mountains in the world rises almost straight out of the city.

And that is exactly why this view feels different from an ordinary mountain view.

Below is a modern city.

Behind it, an enormous mountain with a flat summit.

What to check before booking

The hotel also has rooms and suites with a Marina View.

If Table Mountain is your reason for choosing the hotel, look explicitly for a Table Mountain View.

Especially suited to

Couples

A city break

Travellers who want city and nature in the same destination

Anyone visiting Cape Town for the first time

Sherry’s Take

This is one of the views I love, because it gives you two things in the same window. A city on one side. Enormous nature on the other.

9. Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, a room view over Gardens by the Bay and the Supertrees

The room to look for

Sands Premier Studio with a Gardens by the Bay View

Why we chose it

Marina Bay Sands is famous mostly for its pool.

But it is actually from the rooms that you can get one of the most futuristic city angles in the world.

The Sands Premier Studio comes in at an average of about 70 sqm and can be booked with a City View or a Gardens by the Bay View.

We want the second option.

What you actually see

Gardens by the Bay.

The Supertrees.

The conservatories.

And structures lit at night that look almost like the set of a science-fiction film.

It is one of the best examples of a view that rests not on wild nature but on urban planning.

What to check before booking

Look explicitly for a Gardens by the Bay View.

Not a City View.

Both categories can be excellent, but this is a completely different experience.

Especially suited to

A city break

Couples

Architecture lovers

Anyone who loves an urban view at night

Sherry’s Take

Here I would actually choose the view by night. After dark, Gardens by the Bay gives the room a completely different character.

10. Six Senses Zighy Bay, Musandam, Oman

Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman, a beachfront villa facing the sea with the Musandam mountains behind

The room to look for

Pool Villa Suite Beachfront

Why we chose it

This is one of the least expected views on the list.

Six Senses Zighy Bay sits in a secluded bay on the Musandam peninsula, where steep rock mountains almost touch the sea.

The Pool Villa Suite Beachfront is positioned in the front row facing the beach.

It covers about 126 sqm and includes a private infinity pool, an ocean view and direct access to the beach.

What you actually see

Sea in front.

The Musandam mountains all around.

A beach almost cut off from the world.

And that is exactly what makes this view so strong.

It is not just an Ocean View.

The bay and the mountains form a natural frame around the sea.

What to check before booking

Do not choose a standard Pool Villa Suite if the view is the reason for the booking.

The standard category sits in the third row and has a Private Sand Garden View.

You need to choose explicitly:

Pool Villa Suite Beachfront

Or another Beachfront category that states an Ocean View.

Especially suited to

Couples

A romantic break

Anyone looking for privacy

Lovers of dramatic scenery

Anyone who wants mountains and sea together

Sherry’s Take

This is exactly the hotel where the word Beachfront changes everything. Behind the villa are the Musandam mountains. In front of it, the sea. And the feeling is that you are inside a bay that has almost closed around you.

If the dream is the Eiffel Tower

Shangri-La Paris

If you want a caldera and the Mediterranean

Katikies Santorini

If you want an iconic mountain

National Zermatt

If you want an ocean horizon

The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort

If you want an urban skyline

Aman Tokyo

If you want an Italian town spilling into the sea

Le Sirenuse

If you want a city and a mountain in the same window

One&Only Cape Town

If you want a futuristic view

Marina Bay Sands

If you want a sea wrapped in mountains

Six Senses Zighy Bay

The conclusion

The most common mistake when booking a hotel with a view is thinking the name of the hotel is enough.

It is not.

You can sleep in the most famous hotel in Santorini without getting the terrace you wanted.

You can arrive in Paris and find that the Eiffel Tower is only visible from one particular angle of the window.

And you can book a seafront resort in Oman but choose a villa in the third row with a view of the garden.

So our rule is simple:

Do not book a hotel with a view.

Book the room with the view.

Quick answers to what travellers actually ask

Which hotel in Paris gives a direct view of the Eiffel Tower?
Shangri-La Paris is one of the strongest options. If the view is the reason for the booking, look explicitly for the Duplex Terrace Eiffel View Suite, which comes with a private terrace facing the Eiffel Tower.
Which hotel room suits the most dramatic natural view?
The Galaxy Sanctuary at Jade Mountain Resort is one of the exceptional choices, thanks to its open view towards the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea.
Which room is best for a view of the Matterhorn?
At National Zermatt, ask explicitly for a south-facing room towards the summit. The hotel’s name promises Matterhorn views, but not every room in the building faces the same way, so get it confirmed in writing before you arrive.
Which room is recommended in Tokyo for a city view?
The Panorama Suite at Aman Tokyo. The suite sits in the corner of the tower and includes two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows.
Which room in the Maldives is best for an open sea view?
The Overwater Villa at The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort gives you a private terrace, a private pool and an open view of the Indian Ocean.
Which room should you book at Six Senses Zighy Bay?
If the view is the reason for the booking, look for the Pool Villa Suite Beachfront. It sits in the front row, includes an Ocean View and has direct access to the beach.
Does a photograph on the hotel's website guarantee I will get exactly that view?
Not always. At many hotels, rooms in the same category differ slightly in angle, floor, position and layout. So it matters that you book a room category that explicitly promises the kind of view you want, rather than relying on a marketing photograph alone.
Is it worth paying more for a room with a view?
If the view is a central part of the holiday and you plan to spend time in the room, on the balcony or in the private pool, then sometimes yes. If you leave the hotel in the morning and come back only at night, the supplement can be less worthwhile.
