Sherry's Take
Stay in Bophut for restaurants + boutique character, Chaweng for the busiest beach + nightlife, or Choeng Mon for family-friendly quiet. Avoid Lamai if you want Thai authenticity — it's mostly British/German package-tour zone.

Where to Stay
Bophut / Fisherman's Village

Chaweng
Longest beach, biggest nightlife strip, mid-range hotels, busy
Choeng Mon
Family-friendly, quieter, beautiful crescent beach
Lamai
Second-largest tourist zone, busier in winter, cheaper hotels
Lipa Noi
West coast, sunset views, very quiet, premium resorts
Money-Saving Tips
- 1Massages on the beach are 300–400 THB/hour vs 1,500 at hotel spas.
- 2Fisherman's Village Friday market (5–11 pm) has the best night-time food prices on the island.
- 3Skip the 7-Eleven for water — buy 6-liter jugs at supermarkets for half the per-litre price.
Getting Around
- 1Samui airport (USM) → most hotels: 200–500 THB by taxi, 10–25 min. Hotel transfers are usually 1,000+ — book the taxi.
- 2Songthaews (open-back trucks) run the coastal road for 30–100 THB depending on distance.
- 3Renting a scooter is cheap (200 THB/day) but Samui has high accident rates — wear helmets, drive defensively.
Most Common Mistake
Booking Chaweng Beach Road if you have small kids — the nightlife noise spills into morning, and the beach itself is fine 200 m off the strip.
