Paphos

The quiet end of Cyprus — a harbour castle, a UNESCO archaeological park, and a short flight from home.

Cyprus
Sherry's Take

Decide first whether you want to walk out in the evening or sit still by a pool. Kato Paphos puts the harbour and the tavernas at your feet; Coral Bay and Chlorakas are resort country and need a car or a taxi every night.

Where to Stay

Kato Paphos (harbour)

The castle, the archaeological park, tavernas and hotels within walking distance

Tombs of the Kings Ave

Hotel strip running north from the harbour, still walkable to it

Coral Bay / Peyia

Sandy bay about 6 km north of the city — family resorts, not a walk to town

Chlorakas

Big beachfront resorts just north of Paphos, quiet and car-dependent

Aphrodite Hills / Kouklia

Golf-and-spa resort estate inland east of the airport, a world of its own

Ktima (upper old town)

The working town above the coast — market, local prices, few tourists

Money-Saving Tips

  • 1Paphos airport sits south-east of the city, so a resort north of town means a longer transfer at both ends. Check the transfer before you compare room rates.
  • 2The upper old town (Ktima) is where locals actually eat — a short bus or taxi ride up from the harbour changes the bill noticeably.
  • 3For three or four nights, staying walkable to the harbour usually saves more in taxis than a cheaper out-of-town room saves on the rate.

Getting Around

  • 1Paphos International (PFO) is the airport; it is roughly 16 km by road to the Kato Paphos harbour area.
  • 2The Tombs of the Kings sit about 2 km north of the harbour — walkable along the seafront, and the hotel strip is named after the road to them.
  • 3Coral Bay is about 6 km north of the city in Peyia, and Aphrodite Hills is inland at Kouklia, roughly 19 km by road from the airport.

Most Common Mistake

Booking “Paphos” and landing in Coral Bay or Chlorakas expecting to stroll to the harbour in the evening — those are separate places, and you will be calling a taxi every night.

Ideal Stay

35 nights

Combine with
  • Tombs of the Kings (2 km)
  • Coral Bay (6 km)
  • Akamas peninsula & Blue Lagoon (day trip)
